James has been a professional singer, pianist and private teacher since 2010. Qualifications and training include a MMus in vocal performance from Trinity Laban College of Music & Dance, a BMus from Birmingham University as a first-study pianist and a year-long apprenticeship with the Monteverdi Choir. He currently sings as a permanent member of the choir of St Columba’s, Knightsbridge, alongside numerous other professional church choirs and ensembles, as well as performing as a soloist. Operatic work has included five seasons with Opera Holland Park.
He is a visiting music teacher to two schools, in Cobham and Bromley, and specialises in classical piano & singing and jazz piano, also advising on composition, arranging, classical theory, jazz harmony & theory and aural training. James has prepared more than fifty pupils for ABRSM examinations with a c.96% pass rate. He has taught pupils from age 5 to 75 and has been a pianist, violinist and singer since the age of seven. James can provide a goal-oriented, teacher-led, structured course or a more relaxed, student-paced style of learning, adapting to pupils’ personal motivations and interests.
