Greening The City In Song

Celebration of sustainability, climate awareness, the power of music to connect and climate action through choral and vocal music

Introduction

Songs from the Roman times to 2025, from folk, classical, pop songs, every continent, sacred and secular, through to contemporary songs and material co-created with the children.

Performers: 500 children from City of London Schools + 500 amateur adult singers from Music in Offices programme + featured solo artists with live band

Live plant-generated accompaniments through specific apps and playback of recordings of choirs generated by plants in real-time underscoring the live choirs .

Supported by guest speakers (Robert Macfarlane) and artists (Jackie Morris, Kate Daudy, Alex Hirtzel, Gianni Notarianni...)

Soft launch – June 2025

Greening the City – 200 children performed in the heart of the Barbican; space was greened by Worshipful Company of Gardeners; accompaniment generated by plants for some songs


Phase 1 • Sowing the Seed

@LondonClimateActionWeek repeat scheduled for w/c 22 June 2026.


Phase 2 • Green Shoots

@MusicinOffices and City schools pop up choirs every month across 10 City gardens, generating new material and sharing repertoire from September to May 2026. 10 monthly performances.

Gardens to include:

Christ Church, Greyfriars, St Mary Aldermanbury Love Lane, Whittington Gardens, St Michael’s Cornhill, St Dunstan in the East, Postman’s Park, St Andrew Holborn, Reflection Garden, One New Change, St Alphage Garden,
Devonshire Square roof terrace


Phase 3 • Canopy of Voices

Finsbury Circus June 21st tbc 2027– 500 performers; London Climate Action Week major event + corporate support for ticket sales
